In the stable where the first American officer of the Liberation died, the museum tells the story of the arrival of the U.S. 9th Infantry Division, the Resistance in Thiérache, and the crash of the B-17 Susan Ruth.
The museum occupies the stable of Imbrechies Castle, fully renovated in 2024 by the Association du Devoir de Mémoire de Momignies (Momignies Memorial Association). It was here, on the Imbrechies ridge, that Lieutenant Cook fell on 2 September 1944 — the first American officer killed during the Liberation of Belgium. Three spaces tell, through objects, documents and reconstructions, what the region lived through between 1940 and 1944.
On 2 September 1944, the first soldiers of the U.S. 9th Infantry Division reached the Momignies area. It was here, in the stable that now houses the museum, that Lieutenant Cook fell — the first American officer killed during the Liberation of Belgium.
